SMC Big Spring Choral Concert in Berrien Springs
Southwestern Michigan College’s spring choral concert Thursday at 7 p.m., “Royal Resonance,” combines 150 voices from SMC, Chorllennium and Berrien Springs High School with a 27-piece symphony orchestra. At the heart of April 9’s program is Mozart’s “Coronation Mass,” paired with an eclectic set of choral works spanning centuries and styles and celebrating the beauty and diversity of the choral art.

Two Major Developments in SMC Criminal Justice
Southwestern Michigan College and Western Michigan University Feb. 12 signed an articulation agreement establishing a direct transfer pathway from SMC’s Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Criminal Justice to WMU’s Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.

What SMC Green Club Was Up To at Macropalooza
Macropalooza sounds like a big deal. It’s actually the opposite. “Macro” implies large-scale. But in this case, with Southwestern Michigan College’s Green Club, “macro” refers to tiny invertebrates big enough to be seen with the naked eye. Invertebrates lack backbones, such as spiders, worms, snails, lobsters, crabs, insects and butterflies.

Women in the Military Topic of Academic Speaker Series
The public is invited to attend Southwestern Michigan College’s Tuesday, April 14, Academic Speaker Series featuring women in the U.S. military to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The 6 p.m. program takes place in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on SMC’s Dowagiac campus.

Roadrunner Trails Revitalized
In honor of springtime, even the new Southwestern Michigan College Roadrunner Trails flexible standards spring back up like a Bozo Bop Bag if struck. The trails upgrade announced last May is dedicated to former SMC Athletic Director Ron Gunn and was undertaken by Zac Sartori, his successor as cross country and track and field head coach for men and women.

Kate Miles Visits SMC Green Club
Kate Miles didn’t lecture Southwestern Michigan College’s Green Club March 26. Instead, the 2023 SMC environmental sciences graduate, an environmental health and safety engineer for Metal Technologies, anchored an informal roundtable dialogue in the William P.D. O’Leary Building.

SMC Career Fair Connects Community
You never know who you might run into at Southwestern Michigan College’s Career Fair. Whether a community member seeking a new career or SMC students connecting with employers for their first post-college job, March 18’s event plumbed a diverse array of fields. Career Fair filled 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse in the Student Activity Center of the Charles O. Zollar Building.

SMC Previews Nursing Program
Former Army medic Austin Evans and Buchanan’s Jaime Meahl, following her twin sisters into nursing, offered student perspectives at March 19’s Southwestern Michigan College program preview. Meahl graduates in May. Evans is halfway through the flexible, nationally-accredited program.

Bosch Underwrites SMC’s June STEM Camp
Southwestern Michigan College has been awarded a Bosch Community Fund grant for the eighth Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Camp the third week of June on the Dowagiac campus. This grant underwrites a two-day STEM summer camp for 120 upper elementary students (grades 4-6).

SMC’s ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,’ Opens March 19
If you haven’t checked in lately with the “Peanuts” gang, you’re in for some surprises. Charlie Brown, at least some of the time, looks more like the little red-haired girl he’s pining for a Valentine from than the lovable loser getting undressed by line drives in comic strips. In fact, good grief! “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’s” understudy plans to study nursing at Southwestern Michigan College, ran cross country and track for the Roadrunners and plays clarinet in the band.
